MUMBAI : Actor and former member of the Trinamool Congress Mimi Chakraborty revealed on Tuesday, August 20, that after posting protest posts about the Kolkata rape-murder case, she has been receiving filthy messages and threats of rape. Mimi also tagged the cyber cell department of the Kolkata Police on it.

Mimi wrote, “And we are demanding justice for women right? These are just few of them. Where rape threats has been normalised by venomous men masking themselves in the crowd saying they stand by women. What upbringing and education permits this???? (sic).”

Fans of Mimi swiftly expressed their support for her, flooding the comments space with comments of solidarity. A fan requested prompt action, writing, "Get these two B.....ds arrested and castrated," however, Another commended her bravery and said, "Thank you for having the courage to share this. People having internet does not mean they can say whatever they want. They need education first, and after getting punishment, they will learn..."
The actor had personally taken part in a protest against the doctor's rape and murder in Kolkata. In addition to Mimi, the protest was attended by actresses Riddhi Sen, Arindam Sil, and Madhumita Sarcar on the evening of August 14.
Chakraborty was born on February 11, 1989, and is well-known for her roles in Bengali film and television. Her breakthrough performance came from the lead role she played in the movie Bapi Bari Jaa. She also left her impact on the television show Gaaner Oparey.
From 2019 until 2024, Mimi Chakraborty served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency.
