Here in India, cricket is a religion and so also is cinema. Though it cannot be the other way round, some of our top cricketers have enjoyed a fair share of stardom.
From Salim Durrani in Charitra in 1973 opposite Praveen Babi to Ajay Jadeja, Salil Ankola and Vinod Kambli, all have tried their hands at acting after bidding adieu to their career in cricket. Recently, Tennis ace Leander Paes also made his debut in Rajdhani Express that bombed badly at the box-office.
And the latest cricket personality to embrace films is Harbhajan Singh. Reportedly, when Vinod Bachchan, the erstwhile producer of Zilla Ghaziabad approached Harbhajan to star in his next production, our own ‘Bhajji’ gave him the nod.
It is being rumoured that all this materialized because of Harbhajan’s beau Geeta Basra who had played a cameo in Zilla Ghaziabad. Geeta is considered to be close to Bachchan. Apparently, both Bhajji and Basra share a great equation with Bachchan.
Though there has been no official announcement, things are going to materialize. It is also said that Bachchan is even talking to R Madhavan and Jimmy Shergill to be part of the project. On the female front, Nargis Fakhri is being considered as the leading lady though it hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Rumours also suggest that Harbhahan might be seen in an upcoming Punjabi film produced by Akshay Kumar and Ashvini Yardi under the banner of Grazing Goat Pictures.
