MUMBAI: Actor Sachin Kavetham who has done films like Pagglait, Bala, Aap Jaisa Koi is currently being seen in Huma Qureshi, Sunny Singh, Shreyas Talpade starrer Single Salma. Sharing more on the opportunity of doing the film the young actor says,”Somewhere around mid-2021 I got a call from Casting Bay. They wanted to test me for the part of Huma Qureshi’s character Salma’s brother, Subhan. The audition process was quite fun. In fact, I recorded the whole process of my audition itself, I sent them a self-test and got approval for the role.” Sachin shares what prompted him to take up this role, ”The big names associated with the project were something that attracted me initially. And it was after a very long time that I got an audition with such beautiful scenes, so that factor also played a part. Though while performing my audition, I didn’t have the full picture of the story—and that’s actually very common in the acting industry. When you’re an actor in progress, you’re often approached for auditions with just a scene in hand and a little background of the character, not the entire story. You don’t really have the privilege to select or reject scripts. So the reality is I was not the one who chose it, it was the makers who chose me. I just got a nice scene and a goal to get selected. I received the script only after I was selected and had a meeting with the director. And honestly It was truly a beautiful script, and I was very happy and positive to be a part of it.”
Sharing more details about the role and the look Sachin says,”I’m playing an ordinary teenager in a middle-class family. Subhan is a cricketer born into a financially broken family. He’s funny and cool, but at the same time, you can see a glint of frustration in him towards everyone in the family, except his sister, Salma played by Huma Qureshi. He shares a special bond with her, and that’s one of the interesting parts of the film. The most difficult part for me was when I’m having an emotional interaction with my sister. Performing that scene with such a senior and talented actor wasn’t easy. It’s natural to feel a little anxious around seniors, who are great at their job. Especially when you want to give your best, but at the same time don’t want anything go wrong or any delay because of you. Fortunately, in my case, Huma Qureshi’s supportive nature made it all so much easier.”
Sharing his experience of working under the direction of Nachiket Samant Sachin says,”Right from the very first day of our reading, he’s been the kind of director who makes the other person in this case, me — feel very comfortable. He talks like a friend, and he never lorded it over me. From the first day of the shoot to the very last, it was quite an interesting experience. He guided me calmly and always let me take my time to get it right — both before action and during the rolling.”
So what kind of feedback have you received for your performance in the film? ”On the day of the premiere, I happened to meet some of the people who were there to watch the film, and the feedback was positive. But I believe more in public reviews, because they don’t sugar coat and say what they feel. And I’m still waiting to see how the public receives my character. I hope it opens new doors for me.”
