I am an actor and open to working in any medium - Sharib Hashmi

Sharib Hashmi
Filmistaan gave actor Sharib Hashmi name, fame and recognition after years of hard work and struggle in the industry. But that has not made him forget his first short film, Mehrooni which brought him into limelight as a powerful actor. Shot way back in 2011, Mehrooni tells the story of a maroon sweater which is knitted in Mumbai and it grows in Mumbai. It’s becomes the symbol of an unexceptional couple’s journey, struggling to keep their love alive, and survive life in the modern world. Written and directed by Sharib's friend, Faraz Ali, Mehrooni was shot in a real local train while it chugged between Andheri to Mumbai Central with passengers. Talking about the film, Sharib says, "When Faraz narrated this concept, I was not sure if I could play this role. I had played mostly comic characters till then and this role required me to put on a different garb. Thankfully, I loved the concept and accepted it and I am happy with the response. Mehrooni was released in 2011 on YouTube and garnered a lot of hits catapulting Sharib to instant fame. "I still remember how a person approached me while I was shopping at a mall and said that he was a passenger in the train during the shoot. He complimented me on my role and also clicked a picture with me which happens to be my first fan click." Post Filmistaan, Sharib's life has changed for good. As for now he is busy with Nikhil Advani's serial on Zee Zindagi and also a feature film called Loser Kaheka. He is also planning to shoot for a short film soon. Says Sharib, "After Filmistaan, life has changed but slowly. I have not become an overnight star but I am happy with whatever I am getting." Having tasted success in Bollywood however will not deter Sharib from doing short films. For Sharib it is the story that matters and not the medium. "I am an actor and I will do anything as long as the script appeals to me. Whether it is on television, theater, short films or feature films, it doesn't bother me. Good script is all what matters." Well, we quite like that thought.
