I believe it's crucial to get feedback from all the key departments: Arshin Mehta

MUMBAI: Arshin Mehta, who stars in “The Diary of West Bengal” and has also been part  of films like The Rally and Main Raj Kapoor Ho Gaya, as well as web series like Zee 5's Main Hero Boll Raha Hu and Jio Cinema's Fuh Se Fantasy, says she is open to constructive criticism and makes it a point to communicate this when working on a project. In fact, she actively tries to incorporate feedback into her performance to enhance it.

“I regularly tell the director, the DOP, or anyone else on set that if they feel something could be done better or differently, they should tell me. I've always communicated this to producers and assistant directors as well. If they think a particular scene isn't working, I encourage them to let me know, even if it means redoing the scene multiple times—II do it,” she said.

“I remember a very intense scene in my movie The Diary of West Bengal. I told the DOP that I couldn't do it again, but he insisted it had to be done no matter what. I was completely exhausted and needed some time to regain my energy, but I understood the importance of getting the scene right. I believe it's crucial to get feedback from all the key departments, especially from the director and the DOP, to ensure that the performance aligns with the vision on screen. If there's ever an issue, I always consult my directors, acting gurus, and coaches to get their input on any needed improvements. I'm definitely open to taking their advice,” she added.

Arshin brings a big and beautiful smile along with some food and chocolates with her on the set daily. She maintains a positive attitude throughout, and this contributes to positive work environments.

“No matter how early it is in the morning or even if I haven't slept for two days straight, I still go on set with a smile. I have a little secret: I always keep food, sweets, and chocolates in my bag. If you ask anyone from any project I've worked on, they'll tell you that I always have sweets and chocolates to share with everyone on set. I make sure to give them out, whether I have a lot or just a little,” she said.

“When we're working late into the night, I try to boost everyone's spirits. I'll motivate people, do funny things to add some comedy to the set, and keep the energy up. There's this funny thing about me—I start laughing after midnight, and I don't even know why! But along with the work, we end up laughing, too. Even when I'm working on something intense, I keep myself positive and encourage those around me. I often tell the crew, ‘Let's do our best, and tomorrow I'll bring something sweet for everyone. Seeing them smile makes it all worth it,” she added.

She feels it's really important to keep everyone on the set energized and positive. “I have a very friendly nature, so I talk to everyone, whether it's the lighting person, the set crew, the sound recordist, or the spot boys. We make jokes, have fun, and sometimes take pictures or videos together. At night, I love taking videos of people who are sleeping, and those who are awake get a good laugh out of it. I guess my friendly nature makes it easy to connect with everyone on set,” Arshin concluded.
