MUMBAI: Filmmaker Boney Kapoor has backed a number of productions starring his late wife Sridevi and brother Anil Kapoor. He believes it is his duty to use his skills for the sake of his family.
Like his younger brothers Anil and Sanjay Kapoor, Boney's son Arjun Kapoor and daughters Janhvi and Khushi Kapoor work in the entertainment industry. In an interview, the director claimed that supporting his family members' work and providing them with guidance is not a huge thing.
“Maine har wo cheez ki hai jo mujhe theek lagti thi (I did everything that I thought is correct). I thought it was my job, my duty, and I did that thinking that I was doing it for myself. If I guided Anil, it was not just for him, it was for us. If I guided Sri (Sridevi), it was not just for her; it was for us. If I guide my children today, whether it’s Arjun, Janhvi, or Anshula, as a matter of fact, Sanjay, whatever guidance they need, whatever my experience can give…it is just there,” he stated.
The director refers to Boney Kapoor's family as the center-forward because they have appeared in several of his films, while he considers himself to be a background player.
Boney Kapoor further explained his point, “Why should they not use my skills? Why shouldn’t they seek advice from me? At the same time, I don’t consider this a big deal. I have done nothing, center-forward toh hi hai na, peeche kuch bhi chal raha ho, age center-forward goal nahi kar payega toh goal nahi hoga na (I have done nothing. They are the centre-forward. Whatever is happening in the background, the goal won’t happen if the centre-forward doesn’t do it).”
Ajay Devgn plays the major role in Maidaan, Boney Kapoor's upcoming film. The movie's release date has been delayed from June 2023.
