The epitome of a serious figure and a courteous man who depicts numerous scenarios of life by simply deciphering words into amazing scripts for movies is none other than Shiv Subrahmanyam. He expressed his thoughts about his past experiences in Bollywood and narrated on how he overcame his difficulties gradually.
The versatile actor’s performance was recently appreciated in the movie 2 States. He was rewarded for his finest works as he received a Filmfare award for the best story in the movie Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi.
Let’s zoom into his recital as to how he got into movies. “Well, I was acting for a play with Naseerudin Shah and it was at that time that my talent of writing was being talked about. Vinod Chopra asked me whether I would want to work with him. He wrote the script for the movie Khamosh and from there my journey started off. I used to spend a lot of time writing and thus I eventually wrote scripts for movies like Parinda and Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi.”
Multi-talented as he has proved himself to be by acting in movies like Teen Patti, Kaminey and many more, the actor talks about the more rewarding profession. “As of now I am complemented for my acting. I think it’s because of my performance in the movie 2 States. Apart from that I’ve had great experiences acting in other movies as well.”
On his inspiration behind scripting a movie like Hazaron Khwaishen Aisi, he responded swiftly saying, “Well the inspiration behind the movie dawned as I and Sudhir Mishra explored time and actions of that era. Student agitation, antithesis of idealism, desire to change and bring about a revolution were the aspects that we kept in mind while generating the script. So that is what formed the basis of the script.”
He laid a spark on his favorite character till date and said, “It was Ananya’s father in 2 states. I had a good rapport with all the personalities and I was very comfortable acting with them. There was a comfort zone that was developed. Thus I enjoyed those spontaneous moments that absorbed my discomfort.”
After riding on his Bollywood achievements, we sprung onto his views on success which was portrayed in his character in the serial Mukti Bandhan airing on Colors. “I’ve played a lot of serious roles, and maybe it’s because of my appearance. In real life too the word defeat is not in my dictionary. I always aim for a goal and work towards accomplishing it. I think it’s an ideal thing to do.”
When we further asked him about his experiences in the movie 2 States and whether he has any future ventures the actor replied, “I loved the experience as I had a jolly time with all the actors. Everything was so lively and there were smiling faces everywhere which created a positive environment to work in. It was more about professional and conducive work which I guess was the reason for a positive outcome. I am presently working on quite a few projects but I wouldn’t really want to disclose them.”
Talking further, he said, “I always wanted to act in a comedy role. I want to make people laugh in such a manner that they fall off their seats. Even in the movie 2 States, my character brought in a little humor and that was something I really liked.”
And lastly he had this to say when we he was asked about his appearance and whether it did act as a hindrance to the kind of roles that he were offered, “Yes it certainly did. Many obviously feel that I can act all serious whenever needed. Therefore, whenever people look at me, they say that I fit to the description of a banker or a cop.”
Well said, Shiv!!
