Jason Statham Birthday! From Snatch to The Italian Job, 5 movies of the Hollywood star that have Hindi remakes starring Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan and more

His association with director Guy Ritchie, who cast him in the cult blockbusters Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998 and Snatch in 2000, signified his entry into the film industry.

MUMBAI: Jason Statham has solidified his reputation as one of Hollywood's most dependable action stars, as evidenced by the box office success of this year's The Beekeeper. Statham, who was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, on July 26, 1967, had first focused on diving and had even competed for England in the sport at the Commonwealth Games.

His association with director Guy Ritchie, who cast him in the cult blockbusters Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998 and Snatch in 2000, signified his entry into the film industry. Though they received less praise and money, the actor and director also worked together on Revolver, Wrath of Man, and Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.

Jason’s popularity and fame skyrocketed with films like The Fast and the Furious, The Meg, Crank, Mechanic, Transporter, The Expendables et al.

Interestingly, some of Jason’s popular Hollywood films have been remade into Hindi films;

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels remade as Phir Phera Pheri

A loose copy of Jason Statham's first movie as an actor was made for the Hera Pheri sequel, directed by Neeraj Vora and starring Paresh Rawal, Suniel Shetty, and Akshay Kumar. The Guy Ritchie picture is the source of the plotline where the unfortunate heroes discover a bag of loot belonging to thieves.

Snatch remade as Fool & Final

Still Guy Ritchie's best picture is Snatch. The cast of this ensemble black comedy thriller includes Stephen Graham, Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, and Benicio del Toro. Ahmed Khan's Fool & Final, which was a box office flop despite its colorful marketing and songs, received a less favorable Hindi version of the film.

The Italian Job remade as Players

The intriguing fact is that, while having a significantly different plot, the 1969 movie of the same name served as the inspiration for The Italian Job. In addition to Edward Norton, Jason Statham, Seth Green, Mos Def, and Donald Sutherland in supporting roles, the film starred Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron in the lead parts. This movie was remade in Hindi by Abbas-Mustan in 2012 as the movie Players.

Cellular remade as Speed

In this David R. Ellis-directed thriller from 2004, Jessica Biel, Chris Evans, Kim Basinger, William H. Macy, and Jason Statham played the antagonist. In the film, an abducted woman makes touch with a complete stranger using a damaged phone that only lets her call him. Vikram Bhatt adapted it in Hindi in 2007.

War remade as War

Another movie starring Jason Statham was released in 2007 and served as the namesake inspiration for one of Bollywood's biggest hits twelve years later. Jason Statham and Jet Li, who costarred with him in The One, were reunited in the Philip G. Atwell picture, a twisting action thriller about deceitful faces—quite literally, at that. War, directed by Siddharth Anand in 2019, may not resemble the Hollywood movie in appearance, but it does have a face-swapping twist and a similar underlying notion.
