MUMBAI: We’ve loved watching Jay Soni sporting a chocolate boy image on television so far. After all, who can forget his character of Ishaan Kashyap in the Star Plus show Sasural Genda Phool opposite Ragini Khanna.
While the wait to watch him in a daily soap continues on television, the fans of Gujarati regional cinema can rejoice, as the lad has marked his debut with Gujarati movie Laambo Rasto. The film will narrate the story of an aspiring musician who struggles to make it big in his career. Jay will share screen space with Shrenu Parikh in Laambo Rasto.
Shedding some light on the film, Jay averred, ‘I have never played such a character before and it was a mind-blowing experience. People who have seen the film have showered appreciation saying that my character is convincing. I play a positive an optimistic character in the show. This is the first time I will be showing my ripped body, as my character required me to flaunt it. I am extremely excited and nervous at this point in time.’
When asked about his equation with Shrenu, Jay said, ‘Shrenu is from Baroda, and although I am a Gujarati, I cannot speak in pure rustic gujarati. Shrenu helped me in getting my language right. It is very important to bond with your co-star, as if you don’t have a good rapport, it becomes very difficult to shoot. We were very chilled out and we used to take care of each other’s performances.’
‘Gujarat is famous for its food, and we relished some street food and pan, which is renowned in the state. Shrenu promised me that she will make me taste a variety of food, but did not (winks).... We used to munch a lot in between shots too! Shooting Laambo Rasto was a joyride.’
