Suman Ghosh, who had earlier done noted films like Dwando, Podokkhep and Nobelchor, has penciled Parambrata Chatterjee and Konkona Sen Sharma to play stellar roles for a yet untitled periodic film that would be based on Kadambari Devi, the sister-in-law of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
Thirteen years younger to her playwright husband Jyotirindranath, Kadambari Devi came to the Tagore household in July 1868, and committed suicide on 19 April, 1884, about four months after Rabindranath's marriage. She was slightly older than the poet.
On her part, Konkona is excited to get the opportunity to portray the role of Kadambari Devi. "Kadambari Devi, her space in the poet's life, her equations with other women in the Tagore household as well as husband Jyotirindranath Tagore, will always make her as one of the most intriguing characters in Bengali literary history," Konkona said in a statement.
Essaying this character will remain one of the most fascinating experiences, she said on the set of the film. The set was built at a heritage house near 'Thakurbari (the Tagore house) at Jorasanko in North Kolkata.
Konkona further said that after she was sounded by the director about the film, she began scouring for more books on Kadambari Devi after which she got a better grasp about her character.
About Parambrata essaying the role of Rabindranath, the 7 Khoon Maaf actress observed, "Param perfectly looks like Tagore in the film. With his intelligent and cerebral look, he was the ideal cast."
