MAMI to pay homage to 3 veterans who passed away this year

The forthcoming edition of the 14th Mumbai Film Festival, presented by Reliance Entertainment and American Express and organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) will pay its homage to three veterans who passed away earlier this year. Coming on top would be homage to Indian cinema’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna on whose name the festival has dedicated a special segment. The late star’s most memorable film <em>Aradhana</em> would be screened on the occasion.
The forthcoming edition of the 14th Mumbai Film Festival, presented by Reliance Entertainment and American Express and organised by the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) will pay its homage to three veterans who passed away earlier this year. Coming on top would be homage to Indian cinema’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna on whose name the festival has dedicated a special segment. The late star’s most memorable film Aradhana would be screened on the occasion. Directed by Shakti Samanta, the film paired Rajesh Khanna with Sharmila Tagore. The film’s screening is scheduled on 21 October at 1.15 p.m. at Godrej theatre at National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA). The homage to Dara Singh and A K Hangal will be by screening Dara Singh’s film Samson directed by Nanabhai Bhatt and A.K. Hangal’s Dattak directed by Gul Bahar Singh. Both the classics will be screened at the Godrej theatre on 23 October at 1.15 p.m. and 20 October at 4.00 pm respectively. The festival management has also announced that vivacious superstar Sridevi will light the ceremonial lamp to mark the auspicious occasion on 18 October when the opening ceremony of the city’s most eagerly awaited cultural event takes place. The festival will also host a special event to mark the centenary year of Indian cinema by screening a handpicked list of silent films accompanied by melodies from a live orchestra. The festival also endeavors to serve as a platform to showcase the works of young, talented and progressive filmmakers. The 14th edition of the Mumbai Film Festival is scheduled from 18 to 25 October at the NCPA and Inox- Nariman Point, Liberty Cinema as the main festival venues and Cinemax-Versova Andheri and Cinemax-Sion as the satellite venues.
