Nitin Goswami: My desire to become an actor was sparked by seeing the films of Irrfan Khan

MUMBAI: There are some actors who leave their mark on our journeys, and one such actor for Nitin Goswami is Irrfan Khan. The actor who is currently seen as Parth in the show Deewani says that it was Irrfan Khan’s films that motivated him to join showbiz.

Talking about his background, he says, “My dad served in the CID police and recently retired from there. I spent my entire childhood in Haryana, about 21-22 years, immersed in the culture of the Jat community. I observed their way of life, like raising buffaloes, growing vegetables, and enjoying lassi made from buffalo milk. Living in the CID colony, I was always surrounded by a police atmosphere, as my dad was quite strict during those days. Despite being the eldest among my siblings, I pursued my graduation and later completed an MBA. Following my cousin's suggestion, I worked as a medical representative for around 2.5 years, achieving my targets and enjoying the perks of the job,” he says.

He added, "When I saw Hrithik in ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai,’ I was impressed by his physique, and my cousin pointed out how good he looked. I jokingly said I could look like that too, but deep down, my admiration lay with Irrfan Khan. I had watched his films, rehearsed his monologues, and always aspired to become him even just a little. While Hrithik's body might have been impressive, when it came to acting, Irrfan Khan was my inspiration. I wanted to be like him even if I could achieve just 1% of what he had accomplished in acting. Though I never shared this dream with anyone, it stayed with me. Eventually, I gathered the courage to tell my dad about my aspirations, and to my surprise, he encouraged me to pursue them in Mumbai. With his support, I moved to Mumbai and began my journey into the acting world. I faced uncertainties at first, but gradually learned the ropes by attending auditions and honing my skills through hard work. One day, I stumbled upon an opportunity for a free acting course after winning an audition, which marked the beginning of my formal training. From there, I continued to push myself, trying out different roles and gradually improving my craft. My first breakthrough came with a mythological show produced by Sagar Picture Arts.”

He says he is blessed by the projects he has got so far. “After my initial appearance in ‘Qubool Hai’, where I portrayed a negative character, I landed a role in the show ‘Sarojini’ as a parallel lead alongside actors like Pankaj Tripathi and Mohit Sehgal. Following that, I took on another negative character in ‘Kumkum Bhagya’, which was a significant role alongside Shabir Ahluwalia. Later, I got the opportunity to play the main lead in ‘Siddhivinayak’ and then appeared in ‘Gathbandhan’. In 2016, I starred in the film ‘Badmashiyan’ and also appeared in the web series ‘Hasraten’. Alongside these projects, I have been actively involved in various other endeavours, and currently, I am working on the show ‘Deewani’,” he says.
