Sad! Bollywood stars mourn over the demise of  Kathak legend Pandit Birju Maharaj

MUMBAI: Noted Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj breathed his last on January 17 at his residence in Delhi. He was 83. His grandson, Swaransh Mishra took to his social media handle to announce the unfortunate news. Soon Bollywood stars started sharing their grief about the death of a Legendary Kathak dancer on their social media accounts.

Hema Malini took to her social media handle to share her grief, The veteran actor wrote "The nation mourns the loss of a true legends, Shri Birju Maharaj, Kathak exponent par excellence. His ghungroos were on his ankles till he breathed his last. I always admired and respected him as a giant of the medium of Kathak and will miss his presence on the firmament of dance."

Sharing the picture of Birju Master, ace filmmaker Subhash Ghai wrote, My first learning from kathak dance maestro was in my college youth festival when he expressed a romantic conversation between lord krishna n radha thru his two eyes talking. I learnt ‘DANCE means body but soul is in eyes. That’s y he was a Jagat guru in kathak RIP BIRJU SIR

Whereas actress Madhuri Dixit Nene wrote, He has left behind grieving fans and students but also left a legacy we will all carry forward. Thank you Maharajji for everything you taught me in dance along with humility, elegance and grace.

Birju Maharaj started teaching the dance form at the age of thirteen. He was also awarded Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to the dance. He has also choreographed the dances for the movies like Bajirao Mastani, Devdas, and more.
