MUMBAI: Saif Ali Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat are pulling off a transcontinental on-screen heist. The popular news portal reported in March that Jewel Thief—The Red Sun Chapter was conducted in Mumbai, and afterward, the team flew to a European country (Chor in the city, March 27). It has now been revealed that a significant portion of the thriller, starring Nikita Dutta, Khan, Ahlawat, and Kunal Kapoor, was filmed in Hungary by filmmaker Robbie Grewal.
The plot of Siddharth Anand's Jewel Thief seems to center around a high-stakes robbery in which Khan and Ahlawat's personas are pitted against each other. The cast shot some songs in Budapest while filming the majority of the action scenes and the climax in Mumbai.
A source revealed, “The final leg began on May 18 as they filmed songs featuring Saif and Nikita against the picturesque locales of Budapest. Some action-packed chase sequences were also canned in the 10-day stint. Robbie has envisioned Jewel Thief as a slick heist thriller, with the leading man sporting a suave look, complete with a ponytail. Saif has also built a chiselled, six-pack physique, for which he has been working out since last year.”
The film is nearly complete with the international schedule and it’s wrapped up on May 28. All that's left is a patchwork photoshoot in Mumbai the following month.
The source adds, “It will be only a few days of filming that will include some city and car shots. Robbie is currently neck-deep in post-production and wants to wrap it up by October.”
The producer and Khan reunite with Jewel Thief, which has been written by Anand, Grewal, and Sambit Mishra, over 17 years after the release of Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007).
