Shankar Mahadevan praises Honey Singh

Shankar Mahadevan and Yo Yo Honey Singh
It’s quite an open secret that not many within the music fraternity like Yo Yo Honey Singh. The man who commands a legion of fan following in the country isn’t really rated highly by those within the industry who never let go off an opportunity to take a jibe at him. His famous fracas with Vishal Dadlani became a talking point when their ugly twitter war spilled out in the open. But not everyone from the industry holds a grudge against Honey Singh and his music. Shankar Mahadevan is one such person who although not an ardent admirer has no problems in admitting that the popular rapper has hit the right notes as far his music goes. Lavishing praise on Honey, Shankar said, “Every artiste receives their due at some point in the industry. We (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) have been here for 18 years for a particular reason. There are others who come create a wave and go. It would be wrong to say that the music of Honey Singh is bad. There has got to be something in his music and we have to accept that.” Shankar buttressed his argument by pointing out to Honey Singh’s large fan following which is evidence enough of his good music. “We can’t just brush a person aside who has a fan following of 1 billion. All these people are listening and dancing to his music. There is something in him. I am not talking about vulgar words that he uses in his lyrics because that is a different discussion altogether. There is something in his music that everybody is getting attracted towards. So let us not discount it. It is very difficult for a person to achieve what Honey Singh has.” Well, we are sure Honey Singh would be truly happy to receive such high praise from a genius like Shankar Mahad evan.
