MUMBAI: While the country is busy celebrating the festival of lights, the entertainment industry faced a major loss as popular actor Govardhan Asrani, fondly known as Asrani passed away on 20th October 2025.
The popular actor who rose to fame with his impeccable performance in the blockbuster movie Sholay was fighting against a prolonged illness and breathed his last late Monday evening. The social media was abuzz with people remembering the contribution of the veteran actor.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi too shared his thoughts on the passing away of the renowned actor. Taking to X (twitter), PM Modi mourned the loss of Asrani and wrote, "Deeply saddened by the passing of Shri Govardhan Asrani Ji. A gifted entertainer and a truly versatile artist, he entertained audiences across generations. He particularly added joy and laughter to countless lives through his unforgettable performances. His contribution to Indian cinema will always be cherished. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti."

84-years-old Asrani, is known for his immense contribution to the industry. He has been a part of successful movies like Sholay, Bunty Aur Babli 2, Yamla Pagla Deewana, and Dream Girl 2 among various others.
