Stree 2: Director Amar Kaushik revealed that even Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor were unsure about a sequel; ‘I knew it from day one that it was going to be a lot of pressure’

MUMBAI : Stree 2 has become one of the biggest Bollywood hits of 2024 with Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. The film is a sequel to the popular 2018 film Stree, has made over Rs 520 crore in net international receipts, and is still going strong.

The horror-comedy directed by Amar Kaushik has succeeded in capturing the hearts of viewers once again, much like its debut in 2018. Acclaimed for their outstanding performances, the cast has received accolades reaching over Rs 750 crore globally.

Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Pankaj Tripathi, and Aparshakti Khurana are among the cast members.

Following Stree's 2018 popularity, a lot of people questioned whether a sequel could ever top the original's appeal. Director Amar Kaushik revealed that even the actors, including Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, were unsure about a sequel in a recent interview with a well-known news source.

"All actors, at one point in time, had given up on the possibility of the sequel. With the kind of love that they had received, they were like, Will we get the same sort of love again? There was a fear that the validation of the first part could also go away. I knew it from day one that it was going to be a lot of pressure,” revealed the Bhediya director.

The director was aware that there was a strong fan desire for a sequel despite these doubts. He said to the entertainment news portal that he had already prepared his writer, Niren Bhatt, for the pressure they would face. Kaushik claims that he instructed Bhatt and his group to approach Stree 2 as a wholly original film rather than just a sequel to the first.

Although Stree 2's release has been a huge success, there have been some difficulties. The main actors engaged in a public relations dispute on social media on who should receive credit for the movie's success.

Director Amar Kaushik made it clear that this had no impact on the team's unity. According to the director of Bala, outside influences are to blame for these kinds of incidents.

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan and Akshay Kumar also make cameo appearances in Stree 2. Producer Dinesh Vijan stated that Stree 3 is already in the works at the trailer's launch event.
