MUMBAI: Director Sanjay Gupta is renowned for his gritty gangster films, particularly the Shootout series, which includes Shootout At Lokhandwala (2007) and its prequel, Shootout At Wadala (2013). While Shootout At Lokhandwala was a critical and commercial success, its prequel, Shootout At Wadala, also received acclaim for its portrayal of Mumbai's underworld.
In Shootout At Wadala, Sonu Sood delivered a memorable performance as Dawood Ibrahim. However, Sonu wasn't the first choice for the role. Sanjay Gupta initially approached Vivek Oberoi, who had portrayed the main antagonist, Maya Dolas, in Shootout At Lokhandwala. Gupta believed Vivek would be perfect for the role of Dawood, but Vivek declined, surprising Gupta.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Vivek revealed that he turned down the role because he didn't want to play a character with only 2-3 scenes, as Dawood's role was in the film. He expressed his desire to play Dawood in a more substantial role, citing his persona and the impact he could bring to such a character. Instead of Shootout At Wadala, Vivek opted to work on Krrish 3.
Interestingly, Vivek's rejection didn't just stop at Shootout At Wadala. He also declined an offer to be a part of the anthology film Dus Kahaniyaan, which Sanjay Gupta interpreted as ungratefulness. Gupta recalled feeling that Vivek's career decisions were taking a different path, and he decided to steer clear of working with him.
Vivek's decision to reject Shootout At Wadala and Dus Kahaniyaan was based on his desire for meatier roles, reflecting his commitment to his craft and his aspiration for roles that would allow him to showcase his talent more profoundly.
