The underworld seems to be rearing its ugly head once again. The police yesterday busted an underworld don's plan to bump of eminent filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and his family members.
The police were acting on a tip-off which revealed that the gang would be targeting the Bhatts. It is the same gang who is believed to have been behind the firing at producer Karim Morani's house in August.
Pursuant to the tip off, on 15 November, ACP Sunil Deshmukh and Police Inspector Jagdish Sahil of the Motor Vehicle Theft department picked up seven of the accused from Madhu Park, Khar, who were about to kill either Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt or Mahesh’s son Rahul Bhatt. If sources are to be believed then one of the gang members even went for an interview for a watchman’s job in the building that houses Bhatt’s office in Khar. The cops also said that this same gang was behind the firing at producer Karim Morani's house in August.
“Our police officers had information that the seven were carrying weapons and were about to kill a famous Bollywood personality to establish themselves in the industry so they could extort money later,” Sadanand Date, Joint Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Crime Branch was quoted saying.
The police also said that the seven were working for gangster Ravi Pujari, who has been trying to make his mark in the underworld.
The cops have also recovered four pistols and Rs 11 lakh that they were paid for the job through hawala routes.
Mahesh Bhatt remained unavailable for comment.
