MUMBAI: A photograph that has been doing the rounds on social media recently has stirred quite the buzz a candid moment between Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn and former Pakistani cricket captain Shahid Afridi.
While many assumed the image to be a recent click, the reality is rather different — and far more interesting.
Since the photo has gone viral, netizens are lashing out at the actor for meeting the cricketer post the Pahalgam attack espically because Shahid was the one who spoke ill about the country.

The now-viral snapshot is not from the current year, but from July 2024, during the World Championship of Legends (WCL) clash between India Champions and Pakistan Champions, held at the iconic Edgbaston Stadium in Birmingham.
Ajay Devgn, who co-owns the tournament, was seen warmly greeting Afridi, sharing smiles, a friendly handshake, and a brief conversation before mingling with other legendary cricketers present at the venue.
While the photograph has resurfaced recently leading many to believe it reflects a fresh encounter — fact-checkers have clarified that the moment was captured last year. Its reappearance online coincided with speculation following the cancellation of the India vs Pakistan match in the 2025 edition of the WCL, further fuelling confusion.
That 2024 match, incidentally, proved memorable for cricket fans. Pakistan Champions delivered a powerful performance, defeating India Champions by 68 runs, marking their third consecutive victory and taking them to the top of the tournament standings.
What stood out even more than the on-field rivalry, however, was the off-field camaraderie. The interaction between Devgn and Afridi was anything but staged — a genuine display of mutual respect that resonated with fans from both nations.
It served as a heartening reminder of the spirit of sportsmanship and unity that transcends borders.
Meanwhile, Ajay Devgn is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited film, Son of Sardaar 2, slated to hit cinemas on 1st August 2025. With excitement building for both his cinematic return and his involvement in cricket-based ventures, Devgn continues to bridge the gap between sport and entertainment in the most impactful way.
As the photo continues to circulate, it stands not only as a moment of nostalgia but also as a symbol of harmony — a rare, refreshing glimpse of warmth amidst one of sport’s fiercest rivalries.
