MUMBAI: The renowned Indian singer Usha Uthup's husband Jani Chacko Uthup passed away on Monday in Kolkata at the age of 78. He suffered a cardiac arrest while watching television, and when he arrived at the hospital after being taken there quickly, it was announced that he was dead.
When Jani was watching TV at home in Kolkata, he complained of discomfort. Even though he was taken to the hospital right away, a severe heart arrest ultimately took his life.
In addition to Usha, Jani left behind a daughter named Anjali Uthup and a son named Sunny Uthup. On Tuesday, the family will perform his last rites.
Usha and Jani's daughter Anjali took to her social media handle to confirm the demise of her father and wrote, "Appa... Gone too soon... But as stylishly as you lived... Most handsome man in the world... We love you! A true gentleman and Lawrencian to the core and the finest Tea Taster."
Jani was Usha Uthup's second husband. The singer was earlier married to the late Ramu. Jani was associated with the tea plantation sector. Usha and Jani met at t he iconic Trincas in the early 70s, and love blossomed between the two.
This year, on the eve of the 75th Republic Day, Usha received the Padma Bhushan. Following the award ceremony, she conveyed her gratitude to her family for their constant support over her remarkable career.
Usha's big break came with Dev Anand's Hare Rama Hare Krishna, and she became an overnight sensation. She continued to croon hit songs like Darling, Koi Yahan Nache Nache, One Two Cha Cha Cha, and Hari Om Hari.
She most recently contributed singing skills to Sanjay Leela Bhansali's masterpiece, Heeramandi, for the jazz song Tilasmi Baahein.
