Vijay disclosed that he had just Rs 18 in his bank account during one of his lowest points. Thinking back on this difficult period, he said that the only food he could afford to eat was panipuri (Rs 12) or idli (Rs 13). Because Vijay was no longer asking his family for financial help and was not on talking terms with his father, this was an especially difficult time for him.

He saw this stage as a turning point in his life, at which he felt completely lost. An insightful expert advised him not to push himself too hard until his basic needs were satisfied. This guidance inspired him to keep going despite the difficulties by assisting him in realizing the fire within.

“Meri baat-cheet ho nahin rahi thi mere pitaji se (I wasn’t on talking terms with my father),” he expressed.

“Aur mujhe kisi samjhdaar aadmi ne bola ki jab tak tera rent aur basic kharcha aata rahega, tu hilega nahin. Tere andar jo fire hai usko thoda jalane de…(An intelligent person had told me that till the time you are getting money for rent and basic expenses, you won’t move. You have a fire inside; let it burn),” he added.

Vijay Varma's journey from those difficult times to his current role as the lead actor in IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack is inspiring. Anubhav Sinha, the director of this series, casts him as Captain Devi Sharan, the pilot of the Indian Airlines flight 814 that was hijacked in 1999.

The series, which explores the compelling events of the hijacking and stars Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, and Dia Mirza as well, will debut on Netflix on August 29, 2024.
