MUMBAI: After months of uncertainty, Anushka Sharma's eagerly anticipated film Chakda 'Xpress may finally make its way towards release.
The biography has received attention again after India's fascinating victory over South Africa in the Women's World Cup final on November 2, 2025, raising the possibility that the film could be restarted.
The biopic, which was based on the life of renowned pacer Jhulan Goswami, was reportedly postponed due to production issues and a dispute with Netflix.
According to reports, members of the film’s core team have personally reached out to Netflix India, urging the streaming platform to reconsider. The source stated, “A biopic on a legend like Jhulan di deserves to reach the audience.”
The film reportedly exceeded its planned budget, and Netflix executives were unhappy with how it turned out, leading to the project being stalled. However, reporters insist the film is strong and worth releasing.
India's historic World Cup win has now shifted focus back to women’s cricket and the biopic. Sources say internal discussions at Netflix have resumed, and final evaluations are expected this month to decide if the film can be released after some additional work.
Jhulan expressed her happiness when India finally won the title, something she had missed during her playing career, and she joined the winning squad in celebrating.
If the film is released, it will mark Anushka Sharma’s comeback after seven years.
