MUMBAI : Zeenat Aman, a veteran actress who set many standards in the profession in her day, continues to captivate audiences with her progressive viewpoints. She has shared screen time with several well-known stars in the Hindi cinema industry, including Rajesh Khanna. To avoid making mistakes in front of the late superstar, she disclosed that she would correctly migrate up her lines. She performed bravely in front of him and never once did that appear on her face.

She said, “I remember when I had just started in the film industry, and Rajesh Khanna was the phenomenon. Oh my god, I mugged up all my lines so that I wouldn’t flub a single thing. I was totally intimidated by him, but did I show him? Not at all. I went to him, and I performed. So, when I went back to my makeup room, I was like, ‘Wow. I just gave a shot to a superstar.’ I think that’s the right attitude to have.”

Zeenat Aman is one of those celebrities in Tinseltown who isn’t afraid to call a spade a spade. She has repeatedly spoken about social issues, one of which was live-in relationships. In a long Instagram note, Zeenat Aman had emphasised that couples should live together before getting married. However, this did not go down well with a segment of conservative people.

After the backlash, Zeenat Aman briefly left the social media platform but returned with a more thought-provoking post, this time on the ‘culture of easy outrage’ online. On May 31, 2024, the veteran actress posted a picture of herself wearing a resplendent summery outfit in a pastel shade and revealed in her caption that she took a break as she was bored of her own face on the grid.

Zeenat Aman talked about how she thought about how society has changed over the years while spending this alone time, “Well, hello there! Here I am, photographed through the window of @zanuski’s car yesterday. I took an unplanned social media break. Mostly because I got tired of seeing my own face on my grid! This time to myself really led me to ruminate on how different the world is today from when I started out. It’s quite unrecognisable from what I lived through in the 70s.”

The veteran actress also mentioned in her statement how captivated she is by the ways the internet has changed society, while also acknowledging its drawbacks. She emphasized that although everyone may now succeed in the industry using just their smartphone, in her day and age, only those with advantages could do so.

Zeenat Aman further noted that unpleasant statements are frequently made without hesitation these days, indicating that this is a sign of a "bored society" that has lost touch with reality's complexity.
