Bollywood Journalist Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s first fiction Long Island Iced Tea unveils many secrets

“Some of the actors often accused me of writing fictional interviews in tabloids, and probably they are the ones who have inspired me in writing this book,” says Ram Kamal Mukherjee, author.

Hardnosed and intrepid Bollywood journalist Ram Kamal Mukherjee’s first fiction book ‘Long Island Iced Tea’ is an abstract and doesn’t fall into one genre. It is a mash up sort, blurring of neat and certain categories of ‘fiction’ and ‘nonfiction’ into something that we might call ‘true life fiction, actually closer to this hybrid form’.

The stories in this book, a journalistic slice-of- life account of unconnected incidents, were written in various passing seasons, over many months. The mood of the book swings from sober to slut; shades go from dark to darker tone and from love to lust. The easy read book is not clearly aligned with one genre or the other but rather a genre on its own, his selective recreation of reality and emotional truth with a light humorous dose of creative license.

Mention of Ram Kamal Mukherjee name in Bollywood still elicits a blend of terror and fascination from the coterie of agents, executives, stars and others who were his sworn enemies or closest allies, depending on the day. And some of the incidents in the book, inspired by his experiences in the ‘true-life- fiction’ world of Bollywood, may lead to wild imagination and interpretations! In a bar, if you are the one who craves the most for cocktail, then ‘Long Island Iced Tea’ is the one for you. Go, party with the words, it’s the easiest and interesting book to read in one sitting.

"This is my first attempt to write something which is beyond my comfort zone. This is my first fiction, after writing on Bollywood for almost two decades. All stories are inspired from various incidents that happened in my life. I have shared some, and saved a couple of them for a sequel, only if this one is accepted and loved by all,” says the proud author Ram Kamal Mukherjee.

The publisher Swarup Nanda says, “Ram Kamal is known for his notorious stories on Bollywood stars. When I read his short stories, I felt that they are simple and yet so thought provoking. I can’t spill the beans, but this one is a must read for those who likes to breeze through.”
