Looks like the plethora of filth strewn at Ranveer- Arjun’s AIB knockout which is currently trending on YouTube has got the government up in arms. Sources suggest that Maharashtra’s Minister for Cultural Affairs Vinod Tawde has ordered an enquiry into AIB knockout show which was held in December last year. It is believed that the inquiry will primarily probe the nature language used in the show.
In the meanwhile, a criminal complaint was also registered by Akhilesh Tiwari, President of Brahman Ekta Seva Sanstha in Mumbai, at Sakinaka police station today. In his letter, Akhilesh has demanded action to be taken against the trio and the organizers of AIB knockout. “I have handed over a letter to Sakinaka police demanding a criminal complaint be lodged against these so-called youth icons Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor and Ranveer Singh. The show, which can be seen on YouTube and other websites, was extremely abusive and it is not only ruining the clean image of the Indian culture & women, but is also misleading today’s youth. I sought action against the event organisers and other performers as well, who passed dirty comments with such audacity. The police action would be a deterrent to them so that they would not dare to do such acts publicly in future,” Akhilesh reportedly told the media.
The police confirmed having received the written complaint and stated that they have started their inquiry into the matter.
AIB Knockout was held at a Worli in December last year before a 4000 strong crowd that comprised of well-heeled Bollywood names. The show had Bollywood youth icons Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor as participants and insults offensive, vulgar and cheap in nature were heaped on them as part of the ‘roast’ session. Noted filmmaker Karan Johar acted as one of the hosts along with AIB team members, journalist Rajeev Masand and Raghu Ram of Roadies fame.
All kinds of vulgar jokes including vile words, digs at Karan Johar’s homosexual orientation, Ranveer’s promiscuity and Arjun’s professional failings were traded on the show. Those present in the crowd including women weren’t spared but ofcourse no one seemed to mind because this was expected and everyone had willingly participated in this roast.
The video of the session which was released on YouTube last week has generated considerable buzz. While many have uploaded the act, it has also attracted its share fair of detractors who have criticized AIB for producing a vulgar show that crossed all limits of decency.
We texted AIB co-founder Tanmay Bhat for a reaction on the probe ordered by the government but he chose not to reply. Tanmay did however put out a message on his Twitter profile which read:
“News sources have informed us that the AIB knockout will be subject to some manner of official inquiry. At this point, we have no further details but when we do, we will keep you in the loop.”
We will keep an eye on further developments.
