You can’t choke the show this way: Dayanand Shetty reacts on CID’s sudden closure

Dayanand Shetty

MUMBAI: Yesterday, TellyChakkar broke the news that cult crime fiction show CIDment Television reconsider the decision to pull the plug. As reported earlier, the hashtag #SaveCID is doing the rounds on social media and has gained a lot of momentum.

While interacting with a leading media portal, Dayanand Shetty, who essays the role of Daya in the serial, mentioned that they had stopped shooting after being informed about this development and that the production house will air its last episode on 27 October. He also mentioned that he felt it was unfortunate that the show was being discontinued in its 21st year due to issues with the channel. Dayanand said that it was rather unfortunate, because they were shooting like always, and suddenly, their producer B P Singh informed them to stop the shoot owing to some issues with the channel.

Sony Entertainment Television has officially released a statement that says, ‘Having completed 20 years, CID is the longest running cult show on Sony Entertainment Television. It has been a great journey so far, along with Fireworks Productions, and CID will now take an intermittent break starting 28th October 2018. The last episode of the show will be aired on 27th October 2018. The show will gear up for a renewed season with a lot more contextual cases keeping alive the thrill that the audience has experienced so far.’

There are also reports in the media that CID is not going off-air and will return with a new season after three months.

To get more clarity on it, TellyChakkar got into touch with Dayanand, who shared, ‘Who is going to wait for three months or even more than that? The crew members have some or the other work, so I am sure no one will wait for so long. Since we have stopped shooting, there are many people in our team who have already begun working elsewhere. If good opportunities knock on your door, who is going to wait? I believe it will be very difficult to bring back the same team post the break.’

He continued, ‘There should be an ultimate motive. You can’t choke CID this way. This is not the first time that something like this has occurred. Few months back, they stopped telecasting the episodes all of a sudden for almost two months, and the viewers weren’t even informed about the same.’

He further stated, ‘This is like a surgical strike. Surgically, they have eliminated the show, and it’s happening for the past two years now. In May 2016, the entire month they didn’t telecast any episode. We had shot for a bank of episodes, but still, they didn’t air them. Suddenly over the weekend, we used to come to know the show is not been aired. Fans regularly send us the screenshots and inform us how some other shows are playing at the time when CID needs to be telecast. So now, the producers have taken a stand and they have stopped the shoot of the serial.’

He says that ultimately, it is the producers’ call and that if something happens soon enough, there may be a ray of hope.
