Zor ka jhatka is a whimper but there were other ups on TV

The verdict is out. Zor Ka Jhatka is a wipeout. Yes, pun intended. Probably the free Sea link ride too didn’t lure enough people to the show. What was everyone’s heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan thinking when he signed this one? Yup I too have heard of those sweet sounding amounts that he has been paid for the show but what about the damage that this has done to his credibility? I just can’t IMAGINE why he ever said yes to this one. What a waste of talent.
Not only does the show have a ‘now where have I seen this before’ feel to it, but the contestants (most of them out-of-work TV actors) are also equally insipid but what most TV viewers were waiting for -- SRK’s third attempt as TV show host has been the biggest disappointment. When an actor who is known for his superb sense of humour, perfect attitude, great style gets it wrong it is truly a letdown for his fans. And to top it all whoever wrote his lines for the show needs to get a life. When an iconic romantic hero like SRK is given cuss words as part of his dialogues it indeed is a shame. How can anyone accept SRK saying GPL over and over again??? As for the show why show a replay of each stunt missed by the contestant at least thrice over? One gets so bored that all you do is lunge for the remote. But everything wasn’t so bad last week. As predicted and expected, Mrs Tendulkar did not disappoint. The trio of JD Majethia, Aatish Kapadia and Deven Bhojani has once again stood out as one of the best in the business. The show is well conceived, well executed and has some good actors. What more can a viewer ask for? Hope it sustains its initial quality. While I am on the good ones I have to mention the cherry on the cake - Khotey Sikkey. The YRF show was by far one of the finest and most gripping dramas I caught last weekend. Like all their shows this one too had great production value and makes you feel like you are watching a film. The story is crisp and the action, razor sharp. Vikas Kumar as the cop is very convincing. So once again it’s proven that it’s not about big faces it’s about good acting. Can’t wait to catch the next episode! Love U Zindagi, Wife Bina Life, Pyar Mein Twist all premiered on Star Plus last week. Love U is the Jab We Met take off. Same pinch. Almost like watching the film remade with TV actors and that too on the same location. Reports suggest that the serial will go in for more details as unlike the film it will have no time constraints. So now the serial will dwell on some trivia too. But why would anyone want to know what Geet did for eight months after she broke off with Anshuman is something I can’t figure! And the poor girl (Pavitra Punia) is trying so hard to act and sound like Kareena Kapoor that she falls flat. The same kothi, same sarson ke khet, same backdrop…but By God, not the same magic! Pyar Mein Twist is a weekend show and has Manish Paul and Roshni Chopra playing leads. Slapstick comedy, but passable! As for the reality show Wife Bina Life it will be interesting to know how this one progresses as being a woman, I love it when I see men turning house-husbands. All in all, quite a ‘watchable’ week. Eagerly looking forward to Kismat on February 14 (the next from the YRF stable) which sources say is inspired from Kane and Abel. Read more...
