MUMBAI: We had earlier informed our readers that filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is venturing into the web domain with a web series produced under his production banner, Vishesh Films. We had also told you what the premise is about — a story set in seventies Bollywood, about a struggling film director’s affair with a leading Bollywood actress of those times. It is speculated that the story of the series is based on the story of Bhatt’s own life. Or rather, a certain time in his life.
Well, now Mahesh Bhatt‘s debut web series finally has a name – and it’s Bebaaq!
The web series had gone on the floors in February 2020, before the Coronavirus outbreak shut down the entertainment industry across the country.

South actress Amala Paul is poised to play the Bollywood actress in the series, as reported by us earlier. It is speculated that the top seventies Bollywood actress that the story of Bebaaq centres on is the late Parveen Babi. Tahir Raj Bhasin (Chhichhore) plays the male lead, said to be modelled on Mahesh Bhatt himself. Amrita Puri and Zarina Wahab also play prominent roles in the series. Pushpdeep Bhardwaj, of 2018 romantic drama Jalebi fame, is directing the series.
The show is produced by Bhatt in conjunction with Jio Studios. The streaming platform that will host the series has not been disclosed as of now.
