Regional films are yet not big enough. No wonder TV heartthrob Karan Kundra has put his upcoming Punjabi films on hold so that he could accommodate Gumrah- End of Innocence season 2 (channel V and Star Plus).
Karan confirmed the same when Tellychakkar called him to ask about the release of his three regional films. “They have been pushed backed as I was shooting for Gumrah.”
This show has come as a big boost for Karan, “Till now I was only looked as an actor but now youngsters look up to me for advice.”

Gumrah, co-produced by Balaji Telefilms and Lost Boy Productions, looks at real life crime stories where teenagers have gone astray. Is rising prosperity in many Indian cities the root cause of this degradation of desi values among our youngsters? “No, how many Indians actually have money? The problem stems from the fact that today’s middle and upper middle class parents don’t have time for their kids. When we have any problem, we just Google. So parent’s think the kids will learn about right and wrong from elsewhere as well.”
Karan who came into prominence with Kitani Mohabbat Hai is quite happy with the fact that with Star Plus, Gumrah is getting a much bigger reach.
“Star network honcho (Uday Shankar) felt that the same show which was first on a youth channel (Channel V) can also work on a GEC (General Entertainment Channel) as it addresses common social malaise. The best part is that the shift has been done without any dilution to the concept.”
This rising success seem to have given our 27 year old Jalandhar lad a chip on his shoulder for whence we asked about him audience response to Gumrah, he just asked us to, “check out the social websites”.
Well Karan...have a great life ahead!!!
