MUMBAI: Dalljiet Kaur is one of the most popular actresses in the telly world. She has been a part of several TV shows in her long career span and established a name for herself. On personal front, Dalljiet is mother of a son and has witnessed lot of ups and downs.

In a chat with TellyChakkar, the actress spoke about her struggle and industry having stereotypes towards female actresses.

How has your journey been in this industry and in your personal life? “It's been an enriching experience. I had a lot of ups and downs but it's the story of every woman. Women in general have strength, and I've gained my strength from my mother mainly and many powerful women in my life.”

How do you feel when you encounter any negativity on social media or when people assume that you have a picture-perfect life? “Honestly, I don't take other people that seriously. Even when I was going through a divorce, society wasn't there for me. It was just my family and friends. So, I don't care about the society or people who comment on my lifestyle. Now that I look back, I wonder who was I even fearful of?”

So, after your divorce and having a kid, what changes did you experience in your career? “Being back in the industry after becoming a mother was really difficult. Because after having a baby, I wasn't getting the leading role. I was only getting motherly roles, whereas 2 years ago, I was playing the main lead. And all of this just because I was a mother in real life. So, I was stubborn about getting the correct role for my age bracket. It's not that I don't want to play the role of a mother or dislike that role, I would definitely love to do that in future but at that point, I just wasn't ready to give up! And I'm glad I didn't give up. I've realised even though the male lead is 40+ still he'll get the lead role, but when it comes to women it's very stereotypical. If the role revolves around a mother I'll gladly, do it, but don't stereotype me just because I am a mother in real life.”
