Indra is like a contemporary politician who craves for power - Jiten Lalwani

Jiten Lalwani
“Great art thou, Indra; yea, the earth, with gladness, and heaven confess to thee thine high dominion. Thou in thy vigour having slaughtered vrtra didst free the floods arrested by the dragon.” When actor Jiten Lalwani bagged the role of Lord Indra in Life OK’s Devon Ke Dev... Mahadev (Triangle Films Production) he simply had no difficulty to get a hang of the role. Why? He felt that he could see the ‘archetypal modern day politician’ in Lord Indra. “Indra is like a contemporary politician who craves for power. He can do anything and everything to be powerful. Playing him came spontaneously for me- I could easily portray the greed and jealousy in him. He is haughty, insecure, easily gets scared and is practical.” If Lord Indra had granted him a boon, what would he have wanted? Interestingly he would have asked him to reform the very politicians whom he likens to Lord Indra. “He should transform the politicians into souls who are really concerned for the country and would like to educate the citizens.” What is his take on the controversy on whether Hindu mythology is history or mythology? “I feel that the tales of Gods and Goddesses are mythology whereas the tales of kings and emperors are history.” On a parting note, we ask him if he likes the rains and thundershowers. He after all plays Lord Indra, who is the God of rains and thunder showers. “I love the rains but thundershowers are quite depressing. Films often associate thunder bolts with disaster.” For more updates on the show keep watching this space.
