Vir Das shares excitement as the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards; Says 'It can be life-changing'

MUMBAI: The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced on Wednesday that actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das from India will host the 2024 International Emmys.

As an Indian Emmy host, Vir Das expressed his excitement on Instagram by writing, "Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host I can't wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. Tremendously honored and excited."

Before winning in 2023 for his Netflix special Landing, Das was nominated for an Emmy in 2021 for his special Vir Das: For India. The comedian is presently on his international Mind Fool tour.

He will be the first Indian to host this prestigious event.

In addition to performing stand-up, Vir Das has created, produced, and starred in multiple series, such as Amazon's Jestination Unknown, Hasmukh on Netflix, and Whiskey Cavalier on ABC.

Das starred in Judd Apatow's The Bubble and is currently working with Andy Samberg and CBS Studios on a single-camera comedy. In addition, he plays the lead singer for the comedy-rock band Alien Chutney in India.

Vir Das expressed his gratitude for the chance to present the International Emmys. "I am so happy to be hosting the International Emmys. It's a massive prestigious night to uphold makers from across a world that I believe is making its best content. I know first-hand how it can be life-changing," he said in a statement, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

"We're delighted to welcome back Vir Das to our stage and to add International Emmy Host to his impressive list of talents. With his unique humor and perspective on the world, he now joins a distinguished group of Gala hosts over the years who fit in perfectly with our global audience."

On November 25, in New York City, there will be an International Emmy Awards.

Vir performed stand-up comedy in a variety of locations in India and beyond to start his career. A combination of stand-up specials, live performances, and roles in Bollywood films like Delhi Belly, Go Goa Gone, and Badmaash Company contributed to his rise to popularity.

Vir Das has also become well-known internationally through his Netflix comedy specials, Landing, Vir Das: For India, and Vir Das: Abroad Understanding.

He has received numerous nominations for International Emmys and critical accolades for his work. He became well-known in the entertainment industry throughout the world in 2023 after winning the International Emmy Award for Comedy for Landing.

Das participated in acting, producing, and writing for TV and movies in addition to stand-up. In addition to creating the Netflix series Hasmukh, he starred in the American comedy Whisky Cavalier. Furthermore, he is well-known for his rock and comedy band Alien Chutney.
