You’ve spoken very fondly about your mother in the past. What kind of bond do you share with her?
‘’My bond with my mother has deepened even more since I became a mother myself. I’ve come to realise just how much she loved and cared for me — even during times when I didn’t fully appreciate it. She used to call me up and ask if I had eaten, and I’d sometimes respond impatiently.
I used to say, ‘Mum, please understand!’ But only now do I truly understand — only a mother can feel what it’s like, especially after carrying a child in her womb for nine months. I’ve apologised to her for my past behaviour. Honestly, I feel ashamed when I think about those moments.”
Has motherhood changed your perspective on the way you see your own mother?
“Absolutely. When I’m shooting and I video call my son and he’s not in the mood to talk to me, it really pinches my heart. That’s when I think of my mother — how she must have felt when I reacted coldly or brushed her off. Now, I understand the depth of those emotions.”
Do you recall any specific moment that truly moved you?
“There are many, but one that stays with me is when I wrapped up a shoot around 2 or 3 in the morning. Without saying a word, my mother came to see me the next morning and just started pressing my legs. That silent gesture of love — it brought tears to my eyes. No one else can understand a child’s pain and exhaustion the way a mother does. You may be able to hide things from the world, but never from your mum.”
What role does your mother play in your life today?
“For me, my mother is nothing less than God. Everything I am today is because of her love, support, and silent sacrifices. She’s my strength, my blessing.”
It’s clear that Bharti Singh and her mother share an extraordinary bond — one built on love, growth, and mutual respect. Their relationship is a beautiful reminder of the unconditional love that exists between a mother and her child.
