MUMBAI: On this Friendship Day, actress Akanksha Puri opens up about the moment that shaped her understanding of real friendship.
“Growing up in a police family meant shifting cities, changing schools, and rarely holding onto long-term friendships. But my time in Bhopal gave me some unforgettable memories—bunking tuition, visiting the aquarium, boating by the lake... those were my childhood escapes.”
Years later, an unexpected gesture turned a colleague into a lifelong friend. “During the Calendar Girls shoot, I had to pose in a bikini, which was completely out of my comfort zone. I was nervous and everyone was joking about it. That’s when Satarupa Pyne walked in. She didn’t laugh—she helped. She showed me how to pose, gave me confidence, and earned my respect. That moment still lives in my heart.”
Akanksha believes true friendship is about showing up when it’s uncomfortable. “It’s easy to laugh, harder to stand by someone. That’s what makes a bond real.”
She also believes in keeping friendship simple and heartfelt. “I miss friendship bands! That one line—‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge?’—has more soul than a hundred DMs. I’m very old-school that way.
I still prefer friendship bands over DMs. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai gave us that magic—those simple, sweet gestures that meant you’re someone’s person. I miss that.”
And if she had to name her friendship journey? “Definitely Kaminey! I’m always the one causing chaos in my friend circle—but I love them fiercely.”
