MUMBAI: Ahead of its launch on Sony SAB, Itti Si Khushi is creating curiosity with its heartfelt premise and strong central character, Anvita Divekar, played by Sumbul Touqeer Khan. The show follows Anvita’s journey as a determined young woman who shoulders her family’s struggles with quiet strength and determination. With Sumbul breathing life into a character that is relatable to her, the show promises to strike an emotional chord with audiences, reminding them that sometimes, it’s the smallest gestures that bind the family together.

Though the character of Anvita belongs to a world of fiction, her spirit is very real — and it finds a powerful parallel in Sumbul’s own life. In the show, Anvita is the eldest of six siblings, forced to become the backbone of her family after being abandoned by her mother and left with an alcoholic, irresponsible father. She sacrifices her youth, dreams, and comfort to provide for her siblings, wearing her strength like armor. Off-screen, Sumbul’s story, while different in circumstance, carries that same essence of responsibility, emotional maturity, and quiet resilience.

For Sumbul, portraying Anvita has been an emotionally personal experience. The character’s inner world mirrors parts of her own journey, making this role especially close to her heart. Stepping into Anvita’s shoes has allowed her to revisit moments from her own life, the quiet battles, the unspoken responsibilities, and the courage it takes to keep moving forward. Much like Anvita, who takes on the role of mother, provider, and protector long before her time, Sumbul developed emotional resilience at a young age. Raised by a single parent, Sumbul took on a nurturing role early in life, supporting her father and younger sister while helping them pursue their dreams.

Sumbul Touqeer Khan, playing the role of Anvita in Itti Si Khushi, shared, “The way Anvita silently shoulders her family’s pain, treating it as her responsibility rather than a burden, truly resonates with me. It’s a role that not only challenges my craft but also gives me a rare opportunity to bring fragments of my life to the screen. There was a time when life felt uncertain, and I was striving to create a better future for my father, my sister Saniya, and our family. Just like Anvita, I believe strength comes from persistence and that’s a philosophy I embody in my own life.”

Tune in to watch Itti Si Khushi from Monday, 18th August, at 9 PM on Sony SAB
