MUMBAI: Actress Donal Bisht, who won hearts with her performance in Tu Zakhm Hai and is now set for Bollywood projects like Ramayana and Laal Singh Chaddha, recently addressed the growing issue of AI-generated fake videos and images online.
“I think AI coming into the picture is a very good thing — it is a boon to society,” Donal shared. “Tasks that once took hours or even days can now be done in seconds. AI is very helpful in business; office work has become much easier.”
However, she expressed concern over the misuse of technology. “Fake videos and pictures on social media are causing confusion. Even my mother sometimes asks — when did you wear this dress or where is this photo from? People don’t know what’s real and what’s fake,” Donal explained. She further said, “The line between real and fake is blurring. The more AI-generated fake content appears, the more reality fades away.”
Emphasizing regulation, she said, “There should be a government watermark to identify AI content. People don’t always understand technology, which can be dangerous, particularly for women.”
She highlighted examples from the entertainment industry, “Even celebrities like Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan had to go to the Supreme Court to protect their images, but ordinary people don’t have that option.”
On the risk of scams, Donal added, “AI can be misused by those with bad intentions. Scams are increasing, and the government must monitor this closely to prevent harm.”
Concluding with a warning, she said, “If this continues, the line between reality and illusion may disappear in the next five to ten years.”
