When I look at the kind of work I have done, I feel proud of the hard work I put in: Mohit Malik

Mohit Malik
The very good looking actor Mohit Malik, who has been part of shows like Banoo Main Teri Dulhan, Godh Bharai, Mili and Phulwa, is currently seen as the charming RC in Channel [V]’s Suvreen Guggal-Topper of the Year. Recently Tellychakkar.com cornered this talented actor for a candid interview. Excerpts: Tell us about your journey in the tellyland? Well, it had been seven years now that I am in the field of television and to tell you frankly, it has been a fantastic experience being here. The journey has been completely self exploring and I’ve got to learn so much in these few years. You could say this to be God’s gift to me that I could achieve all this in this period. This craft, along with many other circumstances, has also helped me get my wife Addite (also an actor). How did you decide upon taking up acting as a profession? Well, I was into print ads back in Delhi and actually never thought about being before the camera. That is when somebody liked my pictures and called me to be a part of a show Kahan Hun Main which never saw the light of the day. Soon, one thing followed another and thankfully I am still getting a chance to perform and learn at the same time. So how is it going with Suvreen Guggal? It’s going wonderful; next month I will complete a year of my association with the project. Youth shows have a really great fan base and it’s definitely a kicking feel to be a part of such a popular show of a great channel. These kinds of shows have a chilled-out attitude rather than the high intensity work required in daily soaps. How much do you relate to your character of RC? I have now made the character very close to myself. The character has had a gradual change and now with the change in chemistry between RC and Suvreen and other interns, a new RC has also emerged. I am grounded and level-headed like RC, but I am very impulsive unlike the mature him. You’ve been a part of some of the most popular shows but have never seen you as a lead in them. Why so? (laughs) I would really not be able to answer this. I have played leads in some shows, but now I would like to part of a show from the very beginning; something that will be ‘my show’. I think I deserve to be there as a lead than just being a part of projects playing important characters. After Nach Baliye, we didn’t see you in any another reality series? Well, it was a conscious decision on our (he and his wife) part not to do any other reality show. It was an experience of a kind. But yes, there was nothing interesting enough that came our way after that. It’s just dance, dance and dance on TV these days. What kind of shows would you like to be a part of next? (pauses) I would like to do all kinds of shows. If I don’t do a variety of shows then I will never realise my true calibre. Even in Pratigya I was skeptical about playing the role of a villager. Since I have always donned urban characters, people around me were a little skeptical whether I could play the character of a villager. But when I look at the kind of work I have done, I feel proud of the hard work I put in. Any dream roles you are looking out for? (smiles) I am all game to do an author-backed role in which I can showcase my true capabilities. This would indeed be my dream role. And what about your big screen dreams? Of course I want to move to films but want to give myself time. And I don’t want to quit TV since I am of the feeling that TV is a paid practice opportunity where you get to learn everyday and polish your skills plus get paid (smiles). What about Aditte? When are we seeing her again on screen? Well, after wrapping up with 2612, she has decided to do just ads. She is doing good there. In fact, she has just come back from Bangkok recently after doing one ad; a few more are being lined up soon. Now that she is also planning to start up a café, she is happy with these things at the moment. What keeps you busy when you aren’t shooting? Hmm! I am into photography that happens to be a big time hobby of mine. Besides, I am also into charcoal sketching. Apart from that, I am into serious cricket; am a part of Boxy Boyz, the actors’ cricket team. We have been doing quite well in all tournaments we have played so far. Besides, I am also a complete sports freak. I also make it a point to attend acting workshops to polish my skills and always want to improve my acting acumen whenever I can. Apart from that, I do what every normal teenager would do (winks).
