It would be a very warm family-reunion for the actor-extraordinaire Naseeruddin Shah in England.
This month Naseer will do a stage rendition of Vikram Seth’s poetic parables Beastly Tales, a collection 10 fairytales retold in a subverted saucy contemporary way.
Naseer will be joined on stage by his wife Ratna Pathak Shah and daughter Sheeba in the two performances.
Giving details Naseer says (before flying off), “The three of us will be performing Vikram Seth’s Beastly Tales on 15 and 16 May at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre. Then we’ll be doing Seth’s poems for the Oxford Dramatic Society on 18 May.”
Naseer has earlier shared the stage with his wife and daughter for an adaptation of Ismat Aapa Ke Naam in Hindi and Urdu. This would be the first time the family would be sharing stage space for an English-language play.
On his return to India Naseer will resume shooting for Anees Bazmi’s Welcome Back, the sequel to the 2007 comedy. Naseer steps into the role played by the late Feroz Khan in the first film.
However Naseer clarifies that he is not doing an extension of Feroz Khan’s role. “The two roles are similar. But it isn’t the same role. Anees is great fun. And I’m having a blast.’
