MUMBAI: Punjabi actor Kartar Cheema has been detained by the Civil Lines Police in Amritsar on Monday after NSUI president Akshay Kumar accused the actor of issuing threats through gangster Goldy Brar for an alleged money dispute.

Brar had claimed the responsibility for the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala, who was shot dead yesterday.

Reportedly, National Student Union of India president Akshay Kumar claimed that he had given Rs 25 lakh to Kartar Cheema on loan which the actor failed to return. He also alleged that Cheema through gangster Goldy Brar had issued him death threats saying that he will not return even a single penny.

Kumar further claimed that when he was on his way to the gym on Mall Road on Monday, he was followed by Cheema who brandished a pistol at him and this led to a verbal spat.

Satinder Singh alias Goldy Brar is a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. He was involved in an extortion racket being run in Punjabi and took full responsibility for the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala.

Sidhu was killed on the spot at Jwahar Ke village in Mansa. The Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility for killing the singer soon after. He alleged that he along with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi had engineered the assassination of the popular singer.
