MUMBAI :There’s no doubt that Samantha Ruth Prabhu is one of the most successful actresses in the South film industry. She has also proved her mettle as an actress and has won multiple awards. But, when it comes to the South film industry, we don’t get to watch many women-centric movies, and even if a woman-centric movie is made, the budget is very low.
Till now, Keerthy Suresh starrer Mahanati is the highest-grossing woman-centric South film. It had collected Rs. 83 crore gross at the box office. Now, Samantha is gearing up for the release of her next movie titled Shaakuntalam.

Shaakuntalam is made on a very high-budget. According to reports, the movie is mounted on a budget of Rs. 80 crore. Yes, you read it right! So, while on one hand we have Mahanati, which is the highest-grossing woman-centric South film with a collection of Rs. 83 crore, there’s Shaakuntalam which is made on a budget of Rs. 80 crore.
The Gunasekhar directorial is actually the test of Samantha’s stardom. As we said earlier, there’s no doubt that she is one of the biggest names down South, but it will surely be interesting to see whether she will be able to carry an 80 crore film on her shoulder or not.
A lot depends on Shaakuntalam because if the movie becomes a hit, it will make more producers down South invest in women-centric films and even give them a good budget. So, let’s wait and watch what response the movie will get at the box office.
Shaakuntalam is slated to release on 14th April 2023, and while it's a Telugu film, the movie will be dubbed and released in various languages including Hindi.
