MUMBAI: In a span of six years since her debut, Aishwarya Lekshmi has made a mark in the film industry as a bankable performer, but the actor says she is aware the next few years–and film releases–will be crucial for her and decide where her career is heading.

Having made her debut with the 2017 Malayalam comedy Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela, Aishwarya shot to fame with Aashiq Abu’s Mayaanadhi, co-starring Tovino Thomas. The actor recently saw a major breakthrough with filmmaker Mani Ratnam’s two-part epic Ponniyin Selvan, in which she played Poonguzhali.

In an interview with Indianexpress.com, Aishwarya says she never expected to become an actor, so everything she has gained in her career has been a blessing. “But I am also a very greedy person, so I feel like, ‘I need to sign the next one right now!’ I go into that zone. I have heard some really interesting scripts, but I am not able to gauge where this career is going, to be very honest.”

Aishwarya Lekshmi is currently gearing up for the release of her next, King of Kotha. The Malayalam actioner, starring Dulquer Salmaan, is her only release for the year. Aishwarya says she is carefully deciding what to choose next, and in the process, is often even “losing sleep”.

“I feel this is a time where I should take very informed decisions about what to do, how often to do a film. I am processing all of those things. I am thinking a lot right now. I am actually over thinking it and losing sleep. I am happy with the work I have done. I hope the love and respect audience has given me because of the characters I have done so far stays with me,” she adds.

Helmed by Abhilash Joshiy, King of Kotha is gearing up for a grand Onam release, opening in cinemas on August 24 in Malayalam along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. The film is backed by Wayfarer Films and Zee Studios.
