MUMBAI: Myriad people are responsible for making a show successful, but as actors are the face of the project, they receive most of the appreciation. The crew which endlessly works behind the camera often remains the unsung heroes.

Vishal Sharma is one of the renowned names in the industry when it comes to naming the top Casting Directors. Sharma has a number of successful shows to his credit.

In a candid chat with TellyChakkar.com, Vishal spoke about the issues that the industry is facing amidst the lockdown and pandemic. Read on:

How do you think has the pandemic affected the industry?

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all art sectors and the TV industry is no exception. From shutting down shows to delaying production of television programs had led to negative impacts on revenues as well as employment. The industry is witnessing radical changes in way of working and giving everyone newer perspectives and goals every day. How we used to spend days organizing auditions in the studio and how now it happens within minutes through phone, the journey from Studio audition to self-audition is not only saving lots of time and energy but also increasing the acceptability within decision makers.

As casting directors, our responsibility has increased multifold and ease of talent search has become challenging, the industry is dependent on casting directors and with scarcity of talent as of now (since lots of people have gone to visit their native place during lockdown) it’s difficult to look for new actors and better options with limited options.

Are there any special demands from actors?

Actors have no demands except the quality work as they had to suffer big time in pandemic. In fact, now they have lots of time to groom themselves more and lots of them are utilizing it well.

Safety is needed for everyone one involved and not only actors, kids and senior member certainly need more attention and care

Go on...

Now, the industry is heading to adapt to the new normal and seems to be ready to bounce back. Many measures have been taken and changes have been done to follow the safety guidelines for social distancing and stay-at-home orders. Also, the commitments by production companies and broadcasters to maintain the safety of all involved in production has shown a ray of hope for the industry. At the same time, lots or fake companies are doing fraud and taking advantage of this situation, asking for money from actors with auditions. Actors should avoid getting into such situations to avoid any losses

With new normal, new standards are setting up not only for payments but everything.

This will surely get more and more opportunities for newcomers and semi known faces.

So, get up, show up and remember that the show must go on...

Well said, Vishal!

Stay tuned to this space for more updates.
