Amardeep Jha talks about grooming TV divas Hina Khan, Shrenu Parikh and Neha Sargam

Amardeep Jha

MUMBAI: Amardeep Jha undoubtedly needs no introduction. Having been in the industry for over a decade, she has acted in innumerable films such as DushmanLajjaDevdasSattaMurder 2 and some of the most popular television shows such as  Sapna Babul Ka…Bidaai, Kuch to Log Kahenge, Amrit Manthan  and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. And of course, how can we forget her performance in Bollywood movie, 3 Idiots as Sharman Joshi's mother!

In fact, watching her portray a character belonging to Rajasthani culture, it becomes difficult to assert that she belongs to a different state! Being skilled at her craft, she also has turned a trainer for some of the most popular and loved television celebrities of today’s generation.

Amardeep has trained some of the finest actors such as Hina Khan, Neha Sargam, Shrenu Parikh and more...In a chat with TellyChakkar, Amardeep exclusively tells us how television’s most adored stars evolved as A-list actors with their hard work and sheer dedication.

“When I shifted to Mumbai, I had many films and daily soaps on my platter for me to focus on theatrics, which I mastered into. I did a lot of shows with producer Rajan Shahi (Director’s Kut) and since he knew I helped young aspirants with acting tips, he offered me to polish the skills of his leading faces,” said Amardeep.

Amardeep also had some interesting things to share about her students:

Amardeep on Hina Khan

Hina was a young girl from Delhi who was very hardworking and intelligent. She was very new when she came and was shy. She was not a trained actor when she came in this industry but she had a sharp memory and I could see the spark in her. While playing my part in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus), I noticed that she used to come well prepared on the set. In fact, she not only knew her lines perfectly but the script of others as well. I must say that she has made wonders and grown as an actor gracefully with her diligence.

Amardeep talks about Neha Sargam’s growth as an actor

Neha had an added advantage. She is a soul touching singer. When she came to me, she was sensitive and genuine. I still remember that we used to do a creative dramatic exercise where I asked my students to relate their character with a flower. Neha, at the point when she was doing Chand Chupa Badal Mein, told me that she thought of her character as a sunflower. At the launch party of their show’s first episode, she rushed to me to tell me that the dress that she wore to shoot for the opening episode was yellow and that is how she could relate to her character.

Amardeep also mentioned that she was proud of Shrenu Parikh who was an emotional girl with simplistic attributes and has now turned into a gorgeous and confident actor.

Showering some tips to aspirants and freshers who are new into the field of acting, Amardeep stated, “I always tell whomever I train that treat the camera like your mother. Whether you are fake or genuine, the camera will catch it. When you get into the skin of your character, you start thinking about the possible ideas of what your character can do in situations and the same transforms into reality in some form or the other with the character.”

What do you think of Amardeep Jha, Hina Khan and Shrenu Parikh?

“A good example of the same is my film Zakhm where I play a mother. In one of the scenes, I threaten my son to burn myself alive. This scene was not there in the film initially. While shooting for the film I kept imagining that this is what my character would do. We completed the shoot and after the film was over, I received a call from the makers saying that they found something amiss and it is then that this sequence was incorporated,” she added.

Doesn’t this remind you of ‘The Secret’?

Well said, Amardeep!
