Concepts like Suvreen Guggal are not meant for GECs: Smriti Kalra

Smriti Kalra
She rocked the world as Simi in Sunshine Producions’ Karol Bagh (Zee TV). Now the lovely lady with a killer smile is all set to spread her charm once again on the small screen in Channel V’s upcoming show Suvreen Guggal (to air from 19 March 2012). We are talking about Smriti Kalra and in a candid chat with Tellychakkar.com; she talked about her character, Suvreen, her life, her parents, and lot more. Excerpts: First of all, congratulations on your new show. You have lost a lot of weight. Is it for Suvreen Guggal? Thanks a lot for the compliment. Ahhh…I haven’t lost weight for the show. In fact, the lean Smriti that you guys are seeing right now is the real me. I actually gained weight for my character in Karol Bagh. But now I am in shape (smiles). So tell us something about the show and your character? It is a story of a girl called Suvreen Guggal (played by me), who lives in a small place near Nainital. The show, titled Suvreen Guggal-topper of the year, will capture her journey after she tops in her standard 12 board exams. She is exciting, chirpy and full of life. She loves to play guitar and drives scooter but at the same time is also a little goofy (laughs). How much do you relate to your character? A lot actually. I am very much like Suvreen. Like her, I am also happy-go-lucky, fun loving and lives life to the fullest. How has the experience been being a part of the show? Oh it’s fabulous. I am getting an opportunity to work with some brilliant actors like Meeta Vashisth and Akshay Anand. And all others in the team are also fantastic to work with. I am basically having a blast. How did your family react after watching the promos of Suvreen Guggal? Honestly, I expected a little more response from the promos. When it comes to my family, my dad has always been positive about my work. They are really happy with me. Even my co-stars from Karol Bagh, namely Neil Bhatt and Waseem-who played my brother – also congratulated me and wished me luck. Which character is close to your heart- Simi from Karol Bagh or Suvreen? (Laughs) This is a tough one. Honestly, Suvreen is more fun. I am enjoying every bit of it. As Simi, I had to constantly cry using glycerin, which I am not too comfortable with. Constant crying made me weak and my blood pressure even dipped. Furthermore, I don’t like applying too much make –up and thanks to Suvreen and I can be my natural self on the screen. Fair enough. Is there any insecurity with the fact that show is on a music channel and not on some popular GEC? No, not at all. When I work on any show I don’t really think how many people are going to watch it. I always give my best and I think a concept like Suvreen is not meant for GECs. It belongs to a different genre and my character is quite hatke from what I did in Karol Bagh. Initially my parents were a bit apprehensive on me taking up the role but I told them there is no harm in experimenting as life is short. Did you prepare for the role? No, I didn’t have to prepare for the role, it came to me naturally. The only part where I had work hard was to be a little goofy as I am very smart in real life (smiles). Finally, any message for your fans? I know that my fans must be very upset with me as I have not been in touch with them after Karol Bagh. I was totally away from the media but now that I am back, I promise to be in touch with them. I just want them to love me so that I can entertain them all my life.
