Shalini Sahuta

SAB TV’s Trideviyaan actress Shalini Sahuta always had a dream to become an actor and make a mark in the entertainment industry.

The talented, hard-working and a positive soul, Shalini considers Trideviyaan as a promising project in her career.

After being part of many daily soaps, she made her debut in comedy with the kickass fare.

In a t?te-?-t?te with Tellychakkar.com, Shalini spoke about her show, her character Manu, bond with the co-actors, Bollywood aspiration and more.

Are you enjoying being a part of Trideviyaan?

I am having a gala time shooting for Trideviyaan. Every day is new for me and it challenges me as an actor. The routine is not monotonous as we get into lot of disguise looks. I am thoroughly enjoying my stint on the show.

Usually, with too many females in one show, there are catfights. So how is your equation with your co-actors?

All three of us (Aishwarya Sakhuja , Samaira Rao and I ) are mature and sorted. We gel well and enjoy our meals, gossips and tea sessions together on the sets. In fact, if we pack up early we go out shopping.

Did you girls ever fight over make-up or clothes?

Not at all, we don’t fight over such petty things. All three of us are professionals. Also, I do my own make up and styling as I am very finicky about colour combinations and my looks.

Do you fear that your character Manu could get sidelined?

I am a confident actor and I don’t have such fears in life. Even if you have a small role or not even a dialogue to say, make sure you still do it gracefully and shine in it. At the end, confidence and hard work matter.

Are you single and fine with dating an actor?

I am single but definitely not okay dating an actor. Shoots keep me busy and in my free time, I spend it with my mother. Having said that, I will never date an actor as I think we are very self-centered.

How easy or difficult is it to make people laugh?

Comedy is all about spontaneity, right timing and being natural. I think I am good at playing comic roles as I am a natural and most importantly, I enjoy doing this genre. At the end of the day when I go back home I am fresh and not emotionally drained.

How do you see your journey in the TV industry?

I see my journey being fruitful as I have got an opportunity to play all sorts of characters from positive to negative to now playing a comedy role of Manu. I wish to try my hands on dark and edgy characters in the future.

Has it been easy or difficult for you to bag TV projects?

Bagging TV projects is not difficult but getting a good role with a good budget is a task. It’s very rare that everything falls into place.

Which TV actor would you like to romance on the small screen?

I don’t watch TV and I have no idea who is doing well in the TV space. However, I would definitely work with someone who gives importance to performances.

If not an actor, you would have been?

I would have been nothing if not an actor. Since I was a child,  I have dreamt of becoming an actor. Initially, my mother was skeptical of me having a career in the entertainment industry as it would have affected my studies but now she is happy and so am I.

Have you beat up a guy for misbehaving in real?

Thankfully, I haven’t faced such a situation but I would beat up a guy if he misbehaves with me. I come across as a strict and no bullshit girl so boys would really think hard before messing with me.

Your Bollywood aspiration?

Every actor has aspiration of doing Bollywood films. I too have such dreams but only if I get good offers. I don’t want to do erotic or B grade type of movies. I would rather do a good TV show than show skin on big screens. TV has a wider reach and people respect your work.

Are you comfortable doing bold scenes on TV?

No ways. I am not at all comfortable.

Things you don’t like about the entertainment industry?

I dislike the fact that people don’t talk with respect and abuse using cuss words. But comparatively, positive sides are more.  We actors are very hardworking and serious about our stuff.

If you had a chance to play Samaira or Aishwarya’s role, which one you would have chosen?

It would still have been Manu’s role. I am happy to play that character.

Good luck, Shalini!
