I feel a day is wasted if you haven't learnt anything new - Harshita Gaur

Harshita Gaur
The very pretty and vivacious Harshita Gaur is making her television debut with Channel V’s newly launched show Sadda Haq- My Life My Choice. The show produced by Beyond Dreams Productions has Harshita playing the lead Sanyukta who is out to fulfil her sole dream of becoming a mechanical engineer. Talking exclusively to Tellychakkar.com, Harshita talks about her show and a lot more. Exceprts… Tell us more about your character on the show? I play a conservative Marwari girl, Sanyukta Agarwal who has had a keen interest in machines from childhood. She has grown up with that passion and wants to become a mechanical engineer at any cost. With our show we don’t want to demean anyone, but we just want to make it clear that girls are no less in any field. Mechanical engineering may seem to be made for boys, but it can be a girl’s talent too. And Sanyukta is out to prove the same to the world going against anything that comes her way as an obstacle to her dreams. How did you end up bagging this role? A friend suggested me that I go for the audition of this show. After going through the audition I got the final call. This project is a really good one and I gave it an instant nod. How much do you relate with this character? I relate with it a lot. Even I am an engineer and have the same kind of emotional connect with my mother like my character has. Also similar to Sanyukta, I also want to make a mark in my profession and prove that girls can achieve anything they want. And the way Sanyukta is street smart who can manipulate people to get her work done but not in a bad way, I too sometimes do the same (smiles). What is your personal opinion about gender discrimination? I think the situation is improving a lot. With rise in literacy, things have definitely changed for the better. The basic problem is that there is a section of people in the society who just cannot see a girl becoming independent and as successful as men. It’s the ‘male ego’ that does the harm and the sad part is that you cannot do anything about it. I have also faced something like this when I took up engineering, but thankfully I had a supportive family who has always stood by my decisions. With this being your first show, how are you coping with the long hours of shoot required for a TV show? (Laughs) I am getting used to it and am coping well. I have always wanted to get into TV, and with such a huge show and interesting character coming to me, I have no reasons to complain. The people here are really sweet and it has actually become a second home for me. Youth shows give the audience a chance to ape their stars; anything you want to say about the fashion statement of your character? See, Sanyukta is least bothered about her clothes or style. She is a focused girl who is mad about wanting to just work with machines. Initially when she was at home, she was dressed in salwars and now in college she is seen wearing cool casuals. She had kept her dupatta aside because that was hindering her working. Tell us more about Harshita.. Well, I come from a family of doctors in Delhi. I have always wanted to get into acting and love being on shows. I am trained in Kathak and have been part of drama and creative societies in schools and colleges. I am a simple and chilled person who enjoys life and wants to learn every day. I feel a day is wasted if you haven’t learnt anything new. And how is it working with the Sadda Haq team? It’s fantastic! My co-actors, DOP and everyone on the sets are wonderful. We have loads of fun on the sets. I feel a director is very important for any actor and I am lucky to have one of the best in business on this show. The show has managed to garner good number of fans on Facebook; how are you enjoying all the popularity? Oh, I simply love every bit of it. The reaction has been very good and I think it’s all because the show is very different. People are connecting with the show well and no offence to any show, but this one has a very interesting and different concept from the usual serials on TV. The core plot is very strong and I feel this would take the show to high popularity levels.
