The world stands still when Bollywood singer Mika croons in his melodious voice. The cool Punjabi munda is a power house known for his witty and bindaas nature. Whether a party, a wedding or Bollywood award shows, Mika’s music is enjoyed by everybody.
Mika will soon be seen judging Zee TV’s singing reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. At the recent press meet of the show, the rock star entertained the media by belting out his famous Bollywood numbers.
After a musical gala, Mika got chatty with Tellychakkar where the singer spoke about his show, comedian Kapil Sharma, marriage plans and more.
What made you to don the hat of a judge for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa?
There was a time when there were only few shows where contestants could participate to showcase their talent. The first singing reality show that introduced many famous singers is Sa Ra Ga Ma Pa. Since 1995, I have been following this show. With time, judges and host have changed…but the platform has always remained the same for newcomers. So there are many reasons to be a part of such a fantastic show.
You are said to be the highest paid singer in the industry, do you agree?
(Smiles) Most of the times, I haven’t charged for singing as friendship plays a very important role. But when it comes to shows, I agree that I am the highest paid singer as I have my own NGO for which I need money.
Can you please name a few of the songs you’ve sung for free?
I haven’t charged a single penny for all of Pritam’s songs. My few hit songs for which I didn’t charge are Kick’s Jumme Ki Raat, Rowdy Rathore’s Chinta Ta Ta Chita Chita and many more. But when I entered the industry, I used to travel in a luxurious car and people thought that I was already rich, so I wasn’t paid what I deserved.
What about your marriage plans?
I wish to marry in the next two years. The girl should be a Punjabi.
There was news about you dating Urvashi Rautela, how true is that?
I recently had a video shoot with her in Lucknow so we had clicked a few pictures together. I guess people just started assuming that we were dating.
Your good friend Kapil Sharma is getting his own show for Sony TV, so will there be any rivalry?
I think there is no comparison. If I ask you to compare Honey Singh and Arjit Singh, obviously you can’t. They both are different and better in their own ways. There was a time when I had no fans and Kapil Shama was my only fan. When I used to do live shows with Daler bhai in 1997, I used to play guitar. Kapil attended two shows during that time. He once walked up to me and told me that he was my fan.
Will you feature in his show?
Yes, why not? I will go to promote my upcoming songs.
What about you movie career?
I will produce movies in the near future.
Any myths about you that you want to break?
Mai dil mai aata hu samajh mein nahi.
