But Kunal soon bagged the Star Plus show Sabki laadli Bebo and is elated that he is finally doing what he likes best-acting. And alongside his work as an actor he is also pursuing his MBA. Kunal gets up close and personal with Tellychakkar and talks about his struggle, passion and journey so far. How has been your journey so far? So far it has been an extremely difficult path for me. I was always confused between films and television. I wanted to begin with Bollywood but as time passed by I realised that it’s difficult to make an entry in Bollywood without a Godfather. I struggled a lot to reach here and get the role of Shravan in Bebo. How did Sabki Laadli Bebo happen to you? Sabki Laadli Bebo came as a blessing in disguise and I am completely enjoying being a part of it. After giving auditions at almost every production house I struck gold with Bebo. One fine day I bumped into the Casting Director and he asked me if I was an actor and gave me his card. I then went to the Endemol office and gave the auditions for a couple of characters. And they reverted after 3 days to give me the news that was about to change my life completely. They had selected me to play the lead role of Sabki Laadli Bebo. The day is encrusted in my heart as I couldn’t stop crying. Tell us about your character? Shravan is one who adds the spice to the show (laughs). As the name suggests Shravan is very obedient and loves his parents very much. He has not interacted with many girls so he always gets nervous when he has to converse with any girl. Then one fine day he happens to meet Bebo and falls in love with her. Shravan is loving and caring but is shy of expressing his emotions. Tell us about your background? I was born and brought up in Delhi and hail from a business family. I came to Mumbai to pursue my graduation from Sydneham College. I particularly chose this college as superstars Hrithik Roshan, Manoj Bajpai and many others had been students of the same college. Currently, I am pursuing MBA from Delhi IIPM in marketing after which I plan to do law. Considering that Bebo is a female centric show how much footage will you get? I couldn’t have got a better start than Bebo because TV is mostly watched by housewives. As suggested by the TRPs, shows based on women are the highly watched shows. Secondly, for an actor the length of a role shouldn’t really matter. He must solely concentrate on his performance thus making a difference. Infact it’s a challenge to be accepted in a female oriented soap. You are performing with the veteran Kanwaljeet Singh. How has been your experience working with him? Since my childhood I have been seeing him on television and in movies and it’s my privilege to share the same frame as him. An immensely gifted actor like him can only help you becoming better with each shot. For me it’s like a dream come true to have got the opportunity to be performing with him. Did you take any acting tips from him? Yes, I took a lot of tips from him. He is a sweetheart and a thorough gentleman and helps me improve my acting skills. He always makes me feel comfortable during the scenes. But the highpoint was when he once complemented me on my performance. Earlier there were K-soaps and now there are actors whose names begin with K. Yes, I too have noticed this strange co-incidence. There are many actors with K as their initials but you never know which one will make the difference. It could be me (laughs)! On a serious note it really doesn’t matter what initials an actor has but what truly matters is his hard work, performance, efficiency, discipline and observance.
