MUMBAI: Once hailed as one of the most adored couples in the entertainment and sports world, Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma seemed to share a fairytale romance that captivated fans across the country. However, after nearly five years of marriage, the couple shocked their followers by parting ways.
Their separation was formally granted by the Mumbai family court, marking the end of their marriage.
The legal proceedings took place quietly at the Bandra court a few months ago, following a period of public speculation and intense media attention surrounding their relationship.
In a candid conversation on entrepreneur Raj Shamani’s YouTube channel, Chahal chose to break his silence, opening up about the deeply personal challenges the couple had faced behind closed doors.

“We were going through a rough patch for quite some time,” Chahal admitted. “But we made a conscious decision to keep it private until everything was finalised. One of the main reasons for our split was the lack of time for each other — I was constantly travelling for cricket, and she was equally immersed in her own career.”
When asked whether he had tried to hold on to the relationship by pretending all was well, Chahal did not shy away from the truth. “Yes, I did fake it for a while, hoping it would eventually work out,” he confessed.
The emotional toll of the situation also impacted his professional life. Chahal revealed that he took a step back from cricket to prioritise his mental well-being during that phase. “I requested a break from the Vijay Hazare Trophy. I wasn’t mentally present. Cricket has always been my source of happiness, but I knew something was wrong when even that couldn’t lift my spirits. So, I took a month off to gather myself.”
Despite the heartbreak, both Chahal and Dhanashree have since moved on and are focused on rebuilding their lives individually.
While their relationship may have ended, the grace with which they’ve handled the aftermath continues to earn them respect from fans and peers alike.
